2012 - January

Rev Leo Booth

I hope everyone had a joyous and prosperous Holiday Season and for those of you, like myself, who grew up in the Christian faith I want you to consider the following statement: God became what we are in order that we might become what He is. After the Christmas Season it is good to reflect upon the gift of divinity; yes indeed we are not only children of God but we are also carrying something of God’s image in each of us. In a sentence; we were called to grasp and reflect our greatness. Understand me, I’m not suggesting that we are God, but we are carrying something of God within us. In Unity of Christianity we say it this way: Wherever I am God is, and all is well.

It makes a difference to know this. Especially if we find ourselves going through a tough time. Maybe we all need to stop and reflect upon the belief that not only is God with us, but God is within us. And we can always go to that creative place in order to face, deal with and eventually rise above any challenge. And I do mean any challenge.

Some of you may be facing financial challenges, unemployment, the loss of a loved one or entering into the early stages of recovery; I’m suggesting we reflect upon our divine nature to move us to a place of joy and prosperity. Yes, bad things do happen to good people, but we are not bad. Nothing can remove us from the love of God. I take this positive attitude with me everyday and it affects what I’m able to create in my life.

Over the holidays I was in England preparing my house to rent for friends and guests starting in May this year.

I envision my English home filled with guests who are enjoying the environment I shall be creating, visiting ancient sites that make for the many attractions of England, and making friendships that will last for years to come; Mi Casa, Sue Casa.

Also, I shall be taking this God- given divine creativity with me to the Houston Council on January 9th 2012. The topic will be “Spirituality in Addiction Treatment” but it will really be a celebration of the gift that we can all change and achieve sobriety in our lives. As the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous says: “Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path”; that must surely give everyone confidence. For those friends

I have in the Houston area I hope you are able to come and see me. Contact Monica Brown-Broussard at the Houston Council for more information. www. houstoncouncil.com

The Gift that we celebrate is so positive and powerful it affects everything we do or need to achieve. In past years I wrote a series of meditation books that all started with “Say Yes to Your...” because my God is never telling me not to keep on moving forward.

Earlier in this article I said “...we were called to grasp and reflect our greatness.” This implies that we are willing to take the initiative in moving beyond sadness and negativity and realize that within our sadness and despair lie the seeds of joy and success.

Like Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer,

I need to take my difference, yes, even those things that brought me shame and sorrow, and point them in the direction of joy and prosperity. I’ve done this with my alcoholism, my religious education, my fear...slowly moving forward to lead Santa’s Sleigh.

I’m so looking forward to 2012 and all the happenings that are beginning to take shape; a note for your calendar in 2012, my spiritual journey to Southern India will be from September 20 – October 4th. We shall be visiting a spice plantation, seeing a Kathkali Dance performance, hearing three lectures on the history of India, its culture and the exquisite cuisine. Fifteen days for an incredible price of $2,995 inclusive. For more information contact Shama Kapur 800.835.7262

So, Happy New Year. Polish the gift you have been given and create a wonderful life.
