In the upcoming year, ICDS is pursuing a path of expansion. The primary beneficiaries of the path will be our students. We have just closed a contract with the National Association for Addiction Professionals (NADAAC). This contract will make membership for our continuing education students easy and free. NAADAC was founded in 1972 in order to help further the training of addiction professionals. It has grown tremendously in the recent years, and with that, progress has followed.
“NAADAC’s Mission is to lead, unify, and empower addiction focused professionals to achieve excellence through education, advocacy, knowledge, standards of practice, ethics, professional development and research.”
NAADAC provides for an avenue of continued professional growth in the field. Join us, and then join them! If you purchase $200 of continued education course work, we will pay for your NAADAC membership. All course work can be found and purchased on our website at cdstudies.com or you can go to naadac.org for more information.
About the Institute of Chemical Dependency Studies
The Institute of Chemical Dependency Studies, a NAADAC-approved education provider, sets the standard of excellence in initial, ongoing, and advanced clinical and professional training and development in the field of addiction counseling.
ICDS focuses on four elements of counselor education:
- Substance Abuse Counselor Education - In-class and distance learning. This includes the initial counselor training for certifications and licensures across the country, including LCDC, CADAC, CASAC, CADP, CAP and many others.
- Counselor CEUs (Continuing Education Units) - ICDS also provides fast and convenient independent study CEUs to counselors in 30+ states. ICDS offers CEU Workshops and Online CEUs for certified/licensed counselors.
- Additional Certification Courses Licensed/certified counselors wishing to expand their knowledge and expertise can achieve the following certifications through ICDS: Certified Prevention Specialist Training, Clinical Supervision Training and Certified Anger Resolution Therapist Training.
- ICRC Test Review and Preparation - Workshops and Manuals for the ICRC Test are available through ICDS.
ICDS has been training counselors for sixteen years, offering students the option of completing their counselor training in a Texas classroom location (Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio) or on-line via distance learning.
Varying licensure/certification rules between states may require a degree to become a certified or licensed counselor. To assist students in achieving an associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree ICDS has recently signed an articulation agreement with Lonestar College. This allows our students to transition smoothly to the next phase of their education.
In addition to our articulation agreement with Lonestar College, we have similar agreements with The University of Phoenix and Central Texas College. ICDS hours can therefore be translated into up to 30 credit hours at the schools mentioned above. The American Council on Education also recommends us for college credit at schools across the nation. Cases outside of the three universities mentioned vary, and are considered on a case by case basis.
Funding for ICDS coursework is available through student loans. Other sources of funding include, the Department of Rehabilitation, and the vocational rehabilitation program for veterans.
And finally, we are very excited to announce that this year ICDS will be opening a new site in California. Read Recovery Today next month to find out who our new educational partner in California will be!
